Woodson YMCA | Wausau, WI
The Woodson YMCA expansion and modernization project equips the Woodson YMCA for what’s now and what’s next in health and wellness, creating a platform for innovation and growth for years to come. The goal of the 37,000 sq ft. expansion and 140,000 sq ft. renovation was to enhance vital programming, modernize the facility, add cohesiveness to the building and serve as a vibrant downtown redevelopment. A close working relationship with the client and a high level of planning were crucial throughout this project as the facility remained open to YMCA members throughout construction. The YMCA also received a fresh new look inside and out. Here is an overview of the many program areas included in this project: The Landing, a best-in-class 15,000 sq.ft. activity center for 55+ adults. https://ghidorzi.com/articles/the-landing-at-the-woodson-ymca Child Care Center expansion and redesign which increased child capacity to meet demand while consolidating into one larger and more secure space. https://ghidorzi.com/articles/woodson-ymca-child-care-center-renovation New Aspirus Field House addition including a full-court gymnasium, upper level running track and large program gym to expand program offerings and other fitness additions and enhancements including a consolidated Wellness Center. https://ghidorzi.com/articles/doors-open-to-the-woodson-ymca-expansion-including-field-house-program-gym-the-landing-55-activity-center-and-wellness-center-renovation/ Youth Activity Center overhaul with new centralized location in the Social Hub where today’s youth can study and hang out. https://ghidorzi.com/articles/3199/Designing-a-Hangout-for-Todays-Youth Streamlined building flow and function, transforming the old maze of dimly lit hallways into a naturally lit, multi-level main street which visually and physically connects the facility from one end to the other. https://ghidorzi.com/articles/from-maze-to-mainstreet SCOPE: Design build services, including architectural design, construction, interior design and master planning.
