We are putting the finishing touches on Goodwill’s new Rib Mountain store at 1100 Morning Glory Lane and handing over the keys later today. This building will go from empty to open for business in one short month. The store will open on September 22 following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9.00 a.m.
Now, for some of the highlights.
- Goodwill Retail Store & Training Center where people can shop bargain prices, drop off donated merchandise or receive job training and skill development.
- New Home of the Talent Shop, greater Wausau’s nonprofit boutique filled with unique handcrafted items made by local artisans age 50+.
- One of Goodwill’s most energy-efficient buildings, featuring an energy management system, LED and induction lighting as well as windows to increase natural light.
Goodwill has been serving the greater Wausau community since 1978. Last year alone, the Community Development Program provided job training, placement and skill development for 236 people in the Weston store. The GoodNeighbor Program provided free emergency clothing and household items to 1,756 area residents through 27 local human service agencies. The opening of the Rib Mountain store will enable Goodwill to make an even greater community impact.
If you do not already know the Goodwill story, you can read it at http://www.goodwill.org/about-us/goodwills-history/. This humble beginning has grown into a $3.2 billion global non-profit and fueled Goodwill’s 21st Century Initiative to improve the economic self-sufficiency of 20 million people and their families by 2020.
