The message on 2510 Restaurant’s marquis is living proof that time flies when you’re having fun. As 2510 celebrates 36 thriving years of business, Ghidorzi Companies is cheering right along with them. A building that began all those years ago as Mr. Steak hasn’t missed a beat in delighting appetites of all ages through any of its transformations, including a conceptual shift to 2510 Restaurant, the addition of a bakery and deli and a few expansions along the way.
The topic of sustainability comes to mind as we look back at this design build legacy. Today sustainability is synonymous with the green building movement. But long before the U.S. Green Building Council and LEED certification standards we wholeheartedly embrace, sustainability was about a building’s longevity: the degree to which it could stand the test of time and remain relevant for generations to come. Good positioning on the land parcel, building function and aesthetics are critical success factors.
Old school sustainability has always been the driving force behind the Ghidorzi design build delivery model and packs its own earth-friendly punch. Getting a building right the first time around all together prevents the environmental impact of tear-downs, new facades and major structural changes.
A sustainable building adapts to meet the evolving business needs of the owner and can also accommodate the business plan of a new owner.
The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Company building in Wausau is a great example of a sustainable design build restaurant by Ghidorzi Companies that has remained relevant for next-generation use. Originally built in 2000 as a Hereford & Hops grill-your-own-steak concept, the building transitioned to the contemporary brewery-restaurant of The Great Dane in 2009.
This complete conceptual transformation enabled us to keep the timeless exterior intact, utilizing the design build budget dollars for the interior remodel that defines the customer experience. In 2011, Great Dane tapped Ghidorzi Companies once again to further evolve the building by adding an outdoor beer garden, dining area and live entertainment stage that has become a warm-weather hotspot for Wausau. Yet another reason to count down the days until spring.
Both of the 2510 and Great Dane buildings have stood the test of time. The original structures are still in place today and have provided a solid foundation for the gradual addition of numerous building features that enable the restaurants to remain relevant to their customers and the community.
Congratulations to 2510 for its tasty ride over the last 36 years and to The Great Dane for its status as Wausau’s go-to place for food, drinks and fun. Thanks for letting Ghidorzi Companies be part of it!
