Last Saturday, April 27, greater Wausau witnessed a remarkable display of community spirit and environmental stewardship as 915 volunteers joined forces for the 15th Annual Ghidorzi Green and Clean 2024. This hallmark event was once again a success in beautifying greater Wausau with a massive cleanup effort that removed 2.8 tons of trash throughout Rib Mountain, Schofield, Rothschild, and Weston, with the grand total surpassing 40 TONS since we began in 2010. This achievement speaks volumes to the community’s dedication to cleanliness and sustainability.
Building on this legacy, a record number of 40 Event Partners participated in this year’s Ghidorzi Green and Clean. These businesses and organizations help recruit volunteers through their networks. In addition, more than 350 kids joined the cause, underscoring the event’s family-friendly atmosphere. Special kid-friendly cleanup zones, tailored t-shirts, and appropriately sized trash bags ensured that even the youngest participants could contribute meaningfully to the cleanup efforts.
Volunteers were encouraged to register online at ghidorzigreenandclean.com to receive a free Green and Clean Supply Kit, comprised of safety green t-shirts, trash bags, gloves and site maps. Participants were instructed to leave their filled trash bags in clear roadside locations, with the assurance that the dedicated Pickup Driver assigned to their zone would handle the rest for a thorough cleanup effort.
Participants had the option to join the kickoff event at Corporate Cove Tower, where they could register, collect supplies, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and soak in the motivational atmosphere before heading to their designated cleanup sites. The hard work of our volunteers was rewarded with a free brat fry after party generously hosted by Incredible Bank at their 17th Avenue headquarters.
As the day drew to a close, the collective impact of Ghidorzi Green and Clean 2024 was evident in the cleaner, more vibrant streets and neighborhoods across the Greater Wausau area.
