Ascend Funeral Home & Cremation Care has officially established itself as the area’s first non-profit funeral home following a sunny grand opening and dedication that set the tone for their mission of compassionate service and commitment to easing the burden of loss for our community. The Wausau Legion honored the occasion with a flag raising ceremony and 21-gun salute.
Ghidorzi served as architect, general contractor, and interior designer, coming alongside the Ascend team to create a 6,000 sq. ft. facility with a home-like atmosphere for families to feel comforted as they both grieve and celebrate the life of a loved one.
The Ascend facility features a viewing room to accommodate a group gathering and ceremony, in addition to three distinct spaces that give families the flexibility to function the way they do at home, whether their go-to space is the family room and kitchen, three seasons room or outdoor patio. This unique design allows families to gravitate toward their preferred comfort zone in their most challenging days of making arrangements with the Ascend team and passing time with each other.
A strong sense of welcome is achieved from the very entry point of the property where every aspect of the project from the building exterior to carefully appointed interiors was purposefully designed to be a seamless oasis within the surrounding neighborhood. A front porch and wooden garage doors are just a few of the outside details that make Ascend feel like home. Warm, calming textures and tones await inside with living elements, all of which work to foster peace and tranquility while symbolizing the transitional nature of life and death.
The creation of a functional crematory required close collaboration between architects, contractors and industry specialists. These operational complexities were another key success factor in bringing the Ascend vision to life. The result is state of the art funeral home and cremation facility that will help families navigate loss with dignity and support for years to come.
